The Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, with
financial assistance from the Government of the Federal Republic of
Germany through Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau (KfW) has allocated
sufficient budget towards the cost of the Rehabilitation of the
Ambo-Gedo Road, and intends to apply part of the proceeds to
eligible payments fort the above Contract.
The Ethiopian Roads Authority now invites sealed bids form eligible
bidders for the construction of the above-mentioned contract.
Brief Description of the Works:
The major works of the contract comprise, but are not necessarily
limited to, widening of the existing road, new road construction
over some 7 km, rehabilitation and new construction of drainage
facilities and construction of new pavement layer and shoulders. The
works on the 65 km long road are to be executed under a single works
contract as follows:
Tow road base and wearing course options (Option 1 and Option 2)
have been prepared as part of the design. Bidders shall prepared
bids for both pavement options.

rehabilitation of the project road will be as follows.

The construction period is 24 months, inclusive of mobilization.
Bidding will be conducted through the international competitive
bidding procedures specified in the Guidelines of KfW for
procurement, and is open to Civil Engineering Contractors and
voluntarily formed join Ventures who comply with the requirement set
forth in the qualification questionnaire that comprises Section XII
of the bidding documents.
Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information form and
inspect the biding document at the Ethiopian Roads Authority at the
address below in 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. form Monday to Friday. A
complete set of bidding documents in English may be purchased by
interested bidders on the submission of a written application to the
address below and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of either
4,000 ETB (Four Thousand Ethiopian Birr) or USD 450 (Four Hundred
and Fifty US Dollar) or EUR 375 (Three Hundred and Seven Five Euro).
The Method of payment will be cahier’s check or direct deposit to
ERA’s account NBE A/C NO. GOV.6560-00006-5
Bidders shall submit three separate envelopes: “Qualification
Questionnaire”, “Bid” and “Bid Security” and these should be sealed
in an outer envelope.
Evaluation is to be carried out in tow stages, Qualification
Questionnaire first and Bids of qualified bidders next.
Bids must be delivered to the address below before 28th
February 2006, at 2:30 P.M. All bids must be accompanied by a bid
security with a minimum amount of one present of the bidder’s bid
price in local minimum amount of one present of the bidder’s bid
price in local currency or an equivalent amount in a freely
convertible currency. Late bids will be rejected. Bids will be
opened in the presence of bidders/representatives who choose to
attend at the address below immediately after the deadline for
submission of bid mentioned here above.
