This invitation
for prequalification follows the general procurement notice for this
project that appeared in Development Business No. 590 of September
2, 2002 on-line and in DG Market.
The Federal
Government of Ethiopia has received credit from the International
Development Association (IDA) toward the cost of the Energy Access
project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this credit
to payments under the contract for Urban Distribution Rehabilitation
& Expansion Component. The Contract includes construction of
underground cable and Compact Transformers installation in urban
load center near energized networks. The Ethiopian Electric Power
Corporation intends to pre qualify contractors and/or firms for turn
key project. It is expected that invitations for bid will be made in
1st March 2006. Prequalification will be conducted
through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank’s
Guidelines: Procurement under IDA Credits, May 2004, and is open to
all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the
guidelines.

eligible applicants may obtain further information from the inspect
the prequalification document at the address given below.
A complete set
of the prequalification document in English may be purchased by
interested applicants (a) on the submission of a written application
to the address below and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of
Birr 300 or in equivalent in specified convertible currency.
Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed
envelopes, delivered to the address below by 19 January 2006 and be
clearly marked “Application to Pre qualify for Urban Distribution
Rehabilitation Project, CONTRACT A 03/97.
