Project Funding



The British Embassy Addis Ababa works towards achieving its objectives and the British Government’s strategic priorities through the funding of a number of programmes, as well as through the traditional use of diplomacy. Each programme uses its resources to support projects in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti, whose outcomes will ultimately contribute towards one or more of our goals.

For the financial year April 07- April 08, the British Embassy, Addis Ababa, will be seeking projects that are directly linked to our policies within the fields of Conflict prevention; Climate Change; and Good Governance. Projects may fall within the following areas of priority:

Conflict prevention

Preventing conflict and promoting peace and stability in Ethiopia and the wider region

Climate Change

Raising the profile of the scale and urgency of climate change amongst local and regional stakeholders

Reducing the harmful impact of climate change in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti

Good Governance

Project supporting the development of the media;

Projects supporting the development and implementation of international human rights instruments; and standards on law enforcement and prison conditions;

Projects supporting development of the justice sector and its professional associations

Regional or global projects to develop best practice on combating torture;

Raising awareness raising amongst girls and adults who make decisions which affect them on FGM and early and forced marriages, aiming to reduce the incidence of such practices;

Training for policy, legal and welfare professionals on juvenile justice and prosecution of children

Project budgets should be between £ 20,000 and £ 150.000 including up to 10% for administration costs.

Selected applicants will then be requested to submit full project bids by April 27th. Note that all project bids should be in English.

Please note that British Embassy’s Small Grants Scheme (SGS) has now been closed down, although existing agreements will be honored.
