maintenance to the nationís expanding federal road network, as well
as to develop small locally based contractors; the Ethiopian Road
Authority (ERA) intends to let contracts to the private sector for
labour-based routine road maintenance.
now wishes to invite contractors to express interest in labour-based
road maintenance by completing a contractorís questionnaire. The
works will mainly comprise off-carriageway drainage activities such
as culvert and ditch clearing, erosion protection, bush clearing and
pothole repair of gravel roads.
building or road contractors of grades 5 and below may complete the
questionnaires will be evaluated and three to five contractors from
each of the ERA Districts of Alemgena, Dire Dawa, Gonder, Jimma,
Sodo, Shashemene, Debre Markos, Adigrat, Combolcha and Nekemt will
be selected to receive classroom and on the job training on labour
based maintenance contracting to undertake supervised labour-based
contracts on roads in each district. Contracts resident in the
respective districts are particularly encouraged to apply.
