1. This
Invitation for bids follow the General Procurement Notice of this
Project that prepared in Development Business, issue No. 679 or 16
May 2006.
2. The
Federal Government of Ethiopia has applied for a credit from the
International Development Association toward the cost of Electricity
access expansion project, and it intends to apply part of the
proceeds of this credit to payments under the Contract for
procurement of Medium and Low voltage concrete poles tender No. EAEP
8/99.
3. The
Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation now invites sealed bids from
eligible and qualified bidders for the procurement of 24784 pieces
to type 500 daN, 8mt, and 6196 pieces of type 500 daN, 9mt, 16400
pieces of type 650 daN 10mt, 1276 pieces of type 650 daN, 11mt, 547
pieces of type 650 daN 12mt, 4100 pieces of type 1250 daN 10mt, 319
pieces of type 1250 daN 11mt and 137 pieces 1250 daN 12mt concrete
poles in three lots to 17 separate locations. Details are provided
in the bid document.
4. Bidding
will be conducted through the International Competitive Bidding (ICB)
procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement
under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, and is open to all bidders from
Eligible Source of Countries as defined in the Guidelines.
5. Interested
eligible bidder may obtain further information from and inspect the
bidding documents at the address below (address 1) from 8:00 AM up
to 5:00 PM from Monday to Friday.
6. A
margin of preference for eligible suppliers shall be applied.
Additional details are provided in the bidding document.

A complete sets of bidding documents in English may be
purchased by interested bidders on the submission of a written
Application to the address below (address 2) and upon payment of a
non-refundable fee of ETB 1000 or in USD 115 from the Ethiopian
Electric Power Corporation, procurement division, Head Office. The
method of payment shall be in cash or cashier’s cheque.

The bidding document may also be sent by airmail or carrier
services for overseas bidders who cover all carrier costs in
additional to the above fee.
9. Bids
must be delivered to the address below (address 2) at or before 24
July, 2007 14:00 LT. Electronics bidding will be permitted. Late
bids will be rejected. Bids will be opened in the presence of the
bidders/representatives who choose to attend in person. Bids will be
opened at EEPCo Head Office employee club, De Gaulle Square on 24
July, 2007 at 14:30 LT. All bids must be accompanied by a Bid
Security not less than 2% of the bid price in ETB or in any freely
convertible currency.
10. Taking
into account the lead time required for importation and installation
of concrete pole manufacturing plant(s) to the purchaser country.
The purchaser has considered a lead time after the date of receipt
of advance payment under the contract for suppliers who wish to
import the manufacturing plant. For domestic suppliers the purchaser
will facilitate access to foreign currency required for the
importation of concrete pole manufacturing plant(s).
11. The
purchaser will facilitate for of the successful bidder importation
of concrete pole manufacturing plant(s) free from import duties.
