Bilateral Fund-Request for Project Bids

The British Embassy in Addis Ababa works towards achieving its objectives and British Government’s strategic priorities through the funding of a number of programmes as well as well as through the traditional use of diplomacy. Each Programme uses its resources to support projects in Ethiopia, Somali land and Djibouti whose outcomes will ultimately contribute towards one or more of our goals.

For the financial year 1 April 2008 -31 March 2009 the British Embassy will be seeking projects that are directly linked to our policies within the fields of Conflict Prevention; Climate Change; and Good Governance. Projects may fall within the following areas of priority:

Conflict Prevention

Preventing conflict and promoting peace and stability in Ethiopia and the wider region

Promotion of inner-religious dialogue

Climate Change

Raising the profile of the scale and urgency of climate change amongst local and regional stakeholders

Reducing the harmful impact of climate change in Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti.

Promoting new technologies and innovations leading to the development of low carbon economies

Good Governance

Projects supporting the development of the media

Projects supporting the development and implementation of international human rights instruments; and standards on law enforcement and prison conditions;

Projects supporting development of the justice sector and its professional associations;

Regional or global projects to develop best practice on combating torture;

Training for police, legal and welfare professional on Juvenile justice and prosecution of children.

Project budget should incorporate no more than 10% for administration costs. All proposals will be evaluated using sustainability, strategic-thinking, value for money, and positive demonstration criteria.
